CASE STUDY: Pailton
Engineering
Pailton
Engineering are based in Coventry and have been manufacturing steering columns
for companies such as Leyland Df, JCB, Bentley, Dennis Eagle, Caterpillar, Lotus
and Aston Martin for over 40 years.
After requests
from customers and investigations by management the decision was taken to
achieve ISO 14001. The company had already stopped using solvent based paints
but were still using solvent based rust preventatives, caustic type cleaners and
acid derusters.
ecoLake
carried out an on site survey of the company’s operations. Recommendations were
made to replace solvent based products;
Solvent based
rust preventative – replaced with – water based rust preventative
Caustic
cleaners – replaced with – biodegradable alkaline cleaner
Acid deruster
– replaced with – enzyme based system
ecoLake was
present throughout the change process to facilitate operator training.
Appropriate follow up activity ensured the company were satisfied with the
results they were getting and to investigate other areas of the business where
solvent based products could be replaced.
If you think
